WestEd has 17 offices nationwide, from Washington and Boston to Arizona, Southern California, and its headquarters in San Francisco.
WestEds Information Services Department develops, deploys and maintains comprehensive, high-quality computing, communications, and infrastructure solutions in support of over 600 employees located in 17 offices throughout the United States.
Position Description
WestEds Manager of Network Services will oversee the development of WestEds network infrastructure and services, including the agency network, server platform support, and communications services. The Infrastructure Services Manager will also be responsible for the daily performance and availability of the WestEd network infrastructure and associated services.
Using knowledge of best practices and industry procedures, as well as managerial and planning skills, the Manager of Network Services will lead a team of network infrastructure analysts and engineers to successfully complete projects that improve the delivery of network services to WestEds staff and clients. An initial project will be to produce an assessment of future network needs for the agency and an investment roadmap that outlines recommended changes in the next 24 months.
While managerial skills are a must for this position, it also requires extensive experience with the fields concepts, practices, and procedures as well as knowledge of emerging industry developments. Creativity and strong communication skills will be required to develop and implement successful projects.
Responsibilities
Interpret agency needs and develop appropriate solutions that support short and long term agency objectives.
Lead the Network Services Team in the design and successfully implementation of WestEds network and platform architectures, including a scalable technology framework that supports the needs of the agency going forward
Manage a team of analysts and engineers and the daily operation of the network, and associated services.
Successfully plan and manage projects.
Ensure effective communications regarding network services.
Develop and maintain data and network security.
Work closely with the Services Desk to ensure that incidents and material changes associated with network services are consistently recorded and communicated.
Qualifications
Management skills, including team leadership, staff development, and resource management,
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence business and technical staff and convey technical and design strategies to different audiences.
Demonstrated skills with enterprise network design including WAN and LAN topologies and network security.
Expert knowledge of MPLS, firewalls, IPS devices, policy implementation, layer 2 technologies, WAN Acceleration, security, voice/video over IP, virtualization and cloud services.
Knowledge of open-source operating systems, platforms, and management tools
Demonstrated skill in the development of strategic system and network architectures
Demonstrated skills in project management disciplines, including risk mitigation, change management
Business management skills, including experience in outsourcing, vendor analysis and management, cost analysis and control, budgeting & forecasting,
and compliance & regulatory risk management
Skills in business process and requirements analysis a plus
Must be US citizen or authorized to work (visa sponsorship not available)
